Uncle Buddy (from Glenn Dunn, IATSE Locals 205,484) A tool, usually hand made, built from 3/4 inch steel tubing or rolled steel stock which hooks to the working lines of a counter weight system. It works by friction against the ropes so you can let a piece in or out under control. It is used while loading or unloading weights on an arbor. I personally would not leave a load of more than 600 pounds unattended. The name “Uncle Buddy” is what I have always heard it called. It is definitely a friend to a flyman, like a helpful relative.
